Can you shortly introduce yourself and your role in the HyInHeat project?

My name is Joaquín de Diego Rincón, Director Combustion Applications Europe in Nippon Gases España. I am the focal point for HyInHeat project inside Nippon Gases and responsible of the Steel and Aluminum markets in Europe.

How did Nippon Gases España get involved in the HyInHeat project?

As technology provider for Oxy-fuel combustion in general, and more specifically for Oxy-Hydrogen combustion, our company was requested to support to different partner at HyInHeat project to develop the necessary integrated oxy-combustion systems including hardware, software and safety advise.

How do you see the added value of HyInHeat for Nippon Gases España?

HyInHeat project will permit Nippon Gases España to enlarge our technology portfolio to face the use of hydrogen as potential new fuel in the short-medium future. And, at the same time it permits us to be in close contact with our customers and with the Universities as generators for new knowledge.

What is the role of Nippon Gases España in the HyInHeat project?

Nippon Gases España will provide support to the consortium in the retrofitting requirements necessary to implement at today systems to accept the use of hydrogen as new fuel, working on the necessary modifications at the equipment and process. As well working on the design of the necessary infrastructure to use hydrogen. Finally developing and providing new burners and safety controls systems capable to use hydrogen at the aluminum and steel making process.

What do you hope to achieve by the end of the project?

Show the market that the consortium has been capable to make available technology for the aluminum and steel making process capable to use hydrogen as fuel when available at the market on the required quantities and cost.
