D4.2 – Report on Process and Emission Measurement Technology for H₂-Combustion Systems
This report presents the development and validation of process control and emissions monitoring technologies for hydrogen combustion systems. It serves as a summary of the activities conducted within Work Package 4 of the HyInHeat project. Reliable monitoring and control technologies are essential for the safe and efficient operation of hydrogen-fired industrial furnaces, particularly due to the different combustion characteristics and high water-vapour concentrations associated with hydrogen combustion.
The work focuses on the development and evaluation of fuel quality measurement technologies, combustion diagnostics, process control systems, and emissions monitoring solutions. Several measurement techniques were tested under laboratory and industrial conditions, including Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES), extractive gas analysers, in-situ monitoring systems, and Predictive Emission Monitoring Systems (PEMS). The results provide the instrumentation and control foundation required for hydrogen combustion demonstrations and support future industrial deployment of hydrogen-based heating technologies.
Work Package 4 is a collaborative effort involving the following partners: EHS, RWTH Aachen University, Luxmet Ltd and the University of Oulu.
