HyInHeat as client story on A.SPIRE
We are proud to share that HyInHeat has been featured as a client story on the A.SPIRE website, showcasing our joint efforts to decarbonise high-temperature processes in the steel and aluminium sectors. The story highlights recent achievements of the project and underlines its contribution to Europe’s transition towards climate-neutral industry.
The HyInHeat project is driving real progress in using hydrogen to decarbonise high-temperature heating in the steel and aluminium industries, in line with EU goals for climate neutrality and industrial innovation. The project—led by RWTH Aachen University and funded under Horizon Europe via the Processes4Planet programme—brings together 30 partners from across Europe, working to develop technologies that reduce CO₂ and NOₓ emissions, improve energy efficiency, and lower costs.
Already by mid-2025, HyInHeat has achieved significant milestones:
- Pilot tests with natural gas‐/hydrogen blends in rotary furnaces and a full-scale 12-tonne reverberatory furnace for aluminium melting show promising transferability to larger industrial settings.
- Industrial-scale aluminium casting: Constellium carried out the first industrial-scale hydrogen casting of aluminium slab, a world-first.
These results underscore HyInHeat’s potential to significantly cut emissions across the metals sector and help meet EU climate targets—including contributions to cleaner air, greater industrial competitiveness, and sustainable energy innovation.
